Meet the Owens
Kitsap County natives, Brett and Jen Owens returned to their roots in 2020, settling in Kingston after over a decade in Seattle. By day, they’re both program managers in the tech world—but they’ve always dreamed of creating something more grounded, more meaningful, and more connected to nature.
What started as a personal passion project quickly grew into something worth sharing. In 2022, Brett built their first sauna, inspired by the growing body of research around hot and cold therapy. Never one to settle, he kept tinkering—adding a cold plunge, refining the design, and eventually building the hot tub you’ll find at Velvaere today. Jen brought her eye for design to the mix, layering in thoughtful landscaping, cozy outdoor details, and the welcoming touches that make the space feel special.
They began sharing it casually—just with friends. The kids would play in the yard while the grownups rotated through the spa circuit, unplugging from devices and reconnecting with themselves and each other. Again and again, people left feeling better. Lighter. More alive.
That’s when they started to wonder: what if more people could experience this?
Jen, ever the entrepreneur, saw the potential to open their home and offer something that felt rare these days—space to breathe, reset, and be fully present. With that, Velvaere Nordic Spa was born: a place rooted in wellness, nature, and real hospitality.
Since then, they’ve continued to learn, evolve, and listen—always improving with help from the community they serve.
